It
is our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ by reaching out,
reaching in, and reaching up in love. To accomplish this task we have
designed our church like a home. You are probably wondering, “Why a
home?” The reason is simple: the New Testament describes the church as
a family, and the best way to get to know a family is to visit their
home. We invite guests into our Foyer, we build relationships in the
Living Room, and then grow as a family around the Kitchen table.
foy•er (foi’ er, foi ya’) n. an entry. — It’s
the place in your home that serves as the welcome area for guests and
new friends. It’s the first step, and it’s often your only chance to
make your guests feel comfortable enough to return. That’s exactly how
we’ve designed our entry point venue here at Iowa City Church of Christ.
The Foyer Venue: Sunday 10:30 a.m. worship service. This
venue features music, video, and Biblical teaching geared toward
helping each participant understand and live out Jesus’ teachings for
life.
liv•ing room (liv’ing room) n. - a
room in a home, with sofas, chairs, etc., used for social activities,
entertaining guests, etc. When guests arrive and are welcomed into your
home, you invite them into the living room. Everyone finds a
comfortable place to sit, and the interaction begins.
The Living Room Venue: Adult Bible Fellowship Classes (A.B.F.) These
classes meet on Sunday morning from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. The purpose of
the A.B.F. classes is to provide practical Bible teaching as well as
connect each participant with other people in the church. We currently two A.B.F. classes. One is a video series called, The Death & Resurrection of the Messiah. The second class is called, The Life of Christ: A Chronological Study of Jesus.
kitch•en (kich’en) n. - a
room or place for the preparation and cooking of food. — Webster’s
definition doesn’t help us much, does it? But think about it. What is
the most popular room in your home? Where do you end up when friends or
family come over? The kitchen. This is where lasting friendships are
made. And that’s the kind of environment we are striving for in our
small groups. Small groups are where people meet regularly for Bible
study and prayer, and commit to accountability, friendship and support.
They are the safe place to open your heart, share your life, and ask
the tough questions.
The Kitchen Venue: Small Groups The
best way for you to grow as a follower of Christ is to be in a close
relationship with two or three other Christians. We have designed a
venue to help you accomplish this goal. The venue is our Small Group
Ministry.
A
Small Group is a group of 3 to 10 people who meet in people's homes for
prayer, Bible Study, worship, ministry, and encouragement. The groups
meetat a variety of times, places and locations and without a doubt there is a group that is just right for you!
